Due to the delay of flyers being sent home to our Wethersfield Public Schools students, the deadline for registration has been extended!
So, please disregard the note on the flyer and continue to send in your registrations, but please do so ASAP.
We need to have all registrations in by Friday, June 16th so we can plan and create rosters!
Thank you!

Registration is Here!!!
Hello writers and families!
The time has come to put information and registration up for the Central CT Student Writing Project's 2017 program!
This year's program will take place June 26th- July 7th. Please note, we will not be meeting on Tuesday, July 4th.
During the mornings of BOTH weeks, from 9am-12pm, we will be holding our Creative Writing Program. Students will have the support of educators and their peers while they work on their own story from beginning to end. They will then have the opportunity to have their work workshopped and finally published in an anthology at the close of our program.
The afternoons of our first week- June 26- June 30 from 12:30pm-3:30pm, we will be holding our Poetry program. Students will be exposed to various forms of poetry and other forms of more artistic writing, applying their learning to the writing of their own poetry. They will have the option of publishing their original work in our anthology at the close of our program.
The afternoons of our second week- July 3- July 7 from 12:30-3:30pm, we will be holding a Daily Workshop program. Each day, students will experience a different variety of writing and work on several different pieces. They will have the option of publishing their original work in our anthology at the close of our program. More information on each day's workshop will be coming soon, but your student can expect to work with more creative styles of writing as well as see the different ways writing can be used to communicate ideas and take action in their world.
You can use this link to access and submit the registration form: CCSWP Registration Form
We are asking that if you are registering more than one student, please complete an individual form for each of them!
Upon receipt of your registration, an email will be sent for confirmation as well as to provide you with information for remitting payment.
We look forward to having your students join us! As always, please email centralctwp@gmail.com with any and all questions!

Writers' Workshop: The Details
Many people have been inquiring about the Writers' Workshop program we will be running during the afternoons of the first week of the program this summer (June 20th-June 24th).
We wanted to solidify the details and secure our teachers before posting about the workshop, and we very much appreciate your patience! We are ready to fill you all in!
Each of the five days will be a different workshop, so students will gain experience in five different styles of writing! The five workshops will be:
- "Show Us Your Character"- a workshop in visual literacy, where our students and teachers will use images to propel writing.

- Fractured Fairytales- a workshop in which students will study traditional fairy tales then have an opportunity to create their own versions of these well-loved stories.

- Word Clouds- students will learn several ways to incorporate word clouds into their writing and learning.
- Songwriting- students will be led in the art of writing lyrics to be put to music.
- Letters to the Next President- students will focus on writing for purpose and put their pens and pencils to papers to write to our next President in order to share their perspectives on the issues and topics that affect our country.

Coming Soon...
I would like to start first by introducing myself. My name is Erin Gilbert! I am a teacher in Newington, CT as well as a graduate student at Central CT State University. I took the incredible journey through the writing project last summer, and I jumped at the chance to join the Student Writing Project this summer! I will be teaching as well as doing much of the coordinating this year, and I am really looking forward to working with the students and helping them to develop their writing.
And speaking of that...
We know you all are absolutely itching to get back to writing- and so are we!
We have begun the planning for our programs this summer, and we are very excited about what's to come! We are still finalizing the details, and we will get all the information to you all as soon as we can!
So check back soon for updates, details, and registration information!
In the meantime... how about some writing?! Here's an idea:
Take one of your absolute FAVORITE songs, and write a poem, a piece of prose, a paragraph, a story, ANYTHING that shares the title- but make it your own! Try to do something totally new with it!
Here's mine:
Early Morning Riser
Originally by The Weepies
Early morning riser
Opens sleepy eyes,
Heavy lids
Slowly
Inside, something is shouting
Awake!
Awake!
Though outside, nothing stirs
The peeling back of covers
Leads to the swinging of legs
As bare feet touch cool floor
Smooth wood
Coffee percolating on a slick countertop
Porcelain from the cabinet
Empty
Waiting to be filled
Sugar from the bowl,
Cream from the fridge
The first sip while walking to the porch
Perfect
The stillness of silence
A greeting
As the sun begins its ascension
Good Morning
-Erin Gilbert

CCSWP In Action
The CCSWP is winding down for this summer, but it's been an amazing two weeks.
Just to give you a sense of how much writing has happened and how hard our writers are working, here's some statistics.
Since Monday, July 6th CCSWP writers have...
- Made more than 2800 edits to ccswp.wikispaces.com. On July 9th, students were adding and saving an average of 2 page edits per minute.
- From July 6th to the time of this posting, more than 42,000 writers, parents, and friends have visited, viewed, and read work on ccswp.wikispaces.com.
- By Friday, all of our 40 writers will have prepared at least one piece for publication in the 2015 CCSWP Anthology.
Below are just a few pictures of our authors in action.
